The Default Fields section of the AM Asset Types form, as detailed in the Creating Asset Types section, contains the following fields:

These are as follows:
- Depreciation Method: Select an option from this drop-down field if required. Where an option is selected it will be the default option in the Depreciation Method field on the AM Asset Maintenance (Insert Book) form, where an Asset Book is inserted on an Asset that has this Asset Type added. This form is further detailed in the Insert Books section.
- Basis of Valuation: Select the relevant option from this drop-down field. The option selected will be the default option in the Basis of Valuation field on the Additional Details tab on the AM Maintenance form when Assets with this Asset Type are created. Basis of Valuations can be created, viewed and amended as detailed in the Basis of Valuation section.
- Minimum Carrying Value: This field will define the value below which Assets with this Asset Type will not be depreciated. Add an amount to this field if required - if left blank it will default to 0.00. The amount in this field will be the default amount in the Minimum Carrying Value field on the AM Asset Maintenance (Insert Book) form, when an Asset Book is inserted on an Asset that has this Asset Type added. This form is further detailed in the Insert Books section.
- Depreciation Period: Select an option from this drop-down field if required. Where an option is selected it will be the default option in the Depreciation Period field on the AM Asset Maintenance (Insert Book) form, when an Asset Book is inserted on an Asset that has this Asset Type added. This form is further detailed in Insert Books section. Depreciation Periods can created, viewed and amended as detailed in the Depreciation Periods section.
- Asset Classification: Select an option from this drop-down field. The option selected will be the default option in the Asset Classification field on the Additional Details tab on the AM Maintenance form when Assets with this Asset Type are created. Asset Classifications can be created, viewed and amended as detailed in the Asset Classification section.
