Before Assets can be created Asset Types will need to be set up. Also although a Main Asset Book is available, additional Asset Books may also be required.
These are created and maintained via the AM Asset Module Setup functionality, which can be accessed by selecting the Financials option on the Financials Web Main Menu:

These options are:
- AM Asset Type: Each Asset must include an Asset Type. These will define certain defaults for the Asset as well as the General Ledger Detail Codes to be used for postings that are generated for the Asset. This option is further detailed in the Asset Types section.
- AM Book Definition: Each Asset must also include a Main Asset Book record. The Main Asset Book is provided on installation and will define certain items for the Asset including the Depreciation method. Additional Asset Books can be defined to detail different depreciation regimes but these will only be used for reporting purposes. Only the Main Asset Book will post items to the General Ledger. This option is further detailed in the Book Definition section.
