Importing Catalogues

Parent Previous Next

Products created within or imported into the Purchasing module are required to be associated with a Product Class, which can contain more than one Product, i.e. a Product Class is a grouping of the same type of Products.  For example an Educational Books Product Class would contain educational book Products.

A Product Class also has to be associated with a Requisition Class, which can contain more than one Product Class, i.e. a Requisition Class is a grouping of the same type of Product Classes.  For example an Educational Supplies Requisition Class would contain Product Classes that relate to educational supplies, such as educational books and IT equipment.

Products are therefore held at the bottom level of a hierarchy - Requisition Classes > Product Classes > Products.  A Requisition Class contains the same type of Product Classes - a Product Class contains the same type of Products.

Before importing Catalogue products, the associated Product Class (and associated Requisition Class) must already exist within the Purchasing module.  Please note - the Product itself does not need to exist within the module as it will be created as part of the import process.

If new Requisition Classes are required they can be created and maintained in the module, which is further detailed in the Requisition Class Maintenance section.

If new Product Classes are required they can be created and maintained in the module, which is further detailed in the Create Product Classes section.

Creation and maintenance of Products is further detailed in the Product Maintenance section

If the required Requisition Classes and Product Classes already exist within the module, the Catalogue Products can be imported, which is further detailed in the Importing Catalogue Products section.
